New Wireless Keyboard from Satechi Can Connect to 5 Devices at Once

Satechi BT Wireless Smart Keyboard

The word “smart” isn't used to describe peripherals as often as you think, even when it comes to gaming hardware. Satechi thought it was warranted for its new keyboard though, and to some extent we agree.

After all, it takes a special kind of keyboard, a special kind of wireless technology variation, to allow for more than one device to be connected at the same time.

Most wireless peripherals ship with a receiver, a tiny USB device that maintains the link between a PC and the peripheral in question.

The new Satechi BT Wireless Smart Keyboard, however, can connect to any Mac, PC or other device that happens to possess Bluetooth technology.

In fact, it can be simultaneously connected to five devices. You won't be able to control them at the same time, but you should be able to switch between them quite easily, thanks to a dedicated button.

The Satechi BT Wireless Smart Keyboard even ships with special keys for the different types of systems you can pair it.

For example, the white version has keys mapped for use with Mac system, or mobile devices running iOS. Meanwhile, the black one has keys mapped for PCs and Android.

Speaking of buttons, you'll find multimedia dedicated keys on the keyboard, complete with play/pause, volume, forward/backtrack. Well, actually they're the Function keys (F1 – F12), but you can switch between uses via the Fn key on the lower left hand-side corner. You even have a key that launches an on-screen keyboard on mobile devices, or activates the home screen on phones.

It will be a pain for people who are used to assigning SHIFT and CTRL to game controls though, since the left CTRL is not the only thing right below the left SHIFT.

Indeed, the key arrangement is rather cramped compared to normal keyboards. Then again, this is supposed to be a wireless, portable peripheral, and it's impressive enough on its own that Satechi was able to still include the numpad.

That said, the Satechi BT Wireless Smart Keyboard has a thickness of just 0.7 inches / 17.78 mm and a Bluetooth range of 33 feet / 10 meters.

And if you just feel in the mood to use the thing as a normal keyboard, or you're visiting someone whose PC lacks Bluetooth, there's a USB cable you can use too, plus an extra USB port for other devices. All in all, the Satechi's BT Wireless Smart Keyboard costs $54.99 / €54.99.
