Why Most Facebook Users Don't Recommend Products Online?

Facebook Under Fire Over Psychology Study

How often have you recommended a product to your friends and acquaintances on Facebook? Most likely, not very often. And what stopped you is a fear of social censorship, claims a new research.

Researchers have found that users of social media websites are less likely to use them to say positive things about their favorite products and services. Instead, they are more likely to express their opinions about products in intimate face-to-face social situations.

This is because most users usually have a wide range of “friends” or “followers” on social media sites, outside of their immediate family and friends, which deters them from expressing their opinions as they feel more vulnerable to adverse comments.

Microsoft Drivers vs Manufacturer Drivers

feature - drivers

device driver (commonly referred to as simply a driver) is a computer program that operates or controls a particular type of device that is attached to a computer.  A driver provides a software interface to hardware devices, enabling operating systems and other computer programs to access hardware functions without needing to know precise details of the hardware being used. ~ <Wikipedia>
When it comes to drivers I have always adhered to the ‘if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t need fixing’ philosophy. Provided everything is working fine from the outset and nothing changes from when you first connect your new device and install the driver, what’s the point in updating and taking the risk of maybe breaking something? Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, and I’ll expand on that as we go along.

5 Truths About Google You Didn't Know

5 Truths About Google You Didn't Know

Google, the popular search engine has become one of the fastest growing companies of all time and diversified into so many sectors. Users can search for the information they desire through the use of keywords and operators. In March 2007, Google was noted as the most visited website with over 528 million visits for the month. Since then they haven’t looked back. People use Google on a daily basis but there are so many hidden features and useful hacks in the Google verse. Now let’s take a look at five features that are useful and unknown to many.

Useful Hacks You Didn’t Know About:

In order to enhance the searching capability certain search techniques are being used. If users want to get accurate information, here are few features to improve the search technique in the Google. For a search you want specifically from a certain site, just type your term and then ‘site’ with the desired outlet. If you type in the word ‘related’ then the website, it will return results that include similar type of websites. You can also use ‘define’ in the same way and Google will give you a dictionary term for the word, its usage in speech, and more. Sometimes a memory lapse leaves you searching for the right word. Instead of guessing, put an asterisk in the vacant spot and have the search engine figure it out for you.  Type in ‘set timer’ for followed by a number of minutes, or a specific hour you’d like an alert, and Google will graciously comply with an obnoxious beeping once the moment has arrived. Just make sure the volume’s on.  These additional search tools are incredibly useful and streamline the whole search process.

Mobile radiation not harmful, health experts and doctors

Experts have assured mobile phone users that radiation does not affect the health of a person. Photo: V.V. Krishnan

A group of health experts and doctors have come together on the same platform to dispel fears of harmful effects of radiation from mobile phones and towers.
As part of an awareness campaign by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the experts have assured mobile phone users that radiation does not affect the health of a person.
In a video series which would soon be uploaded on YouTube, Dr Bhavin Jankharia, Mumbai—based eminent radiologist and president of the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association, said, “Mobile tower radiation is inherently a type of radiation that we believe does not produce any kind of significant harm to humans.”
He said that the entire issue began when some people made some co—relation between an incidence of cancer and telecom towers without any basis.
Various environmental groups, NGOs and activists in India have voiced their concerns over adverse health affects from Electromagnetic Field (EMF) emissions from antennas on cell towers and mobile phones.

In secret experiment, Facebook tweaked feeds of 6 lakh users

Facebook conducted a psychological experiment on over 6 lakh users, who had no idea that their news feeds were being manipulated to study their emotional reactions.

The study, published in the latest issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Scientists (PNAS) in the US, claims that the experiment was "consistent with Facebook's Data Use Policy, to which all users agree prior to creating an account on Facebook, constituting informed consent for this research".

The study proves existence of an "emotional contagion" through social networks, that is, a user's own emotions reflect what he or she sees more of in his or her newsfeed.

5 mouse tricks that will change the way you use your computer

5 mouse tricks that will change the way you use your computer

Your keyboard isn't the only way to interact with your computer, though. The humble mouse sitting next to it can do more than you might think.

I'm not just talking about the right mouse button. I'm sure you know that right-clicking on practically anything in Windows, Mac or your favorite programs can bring up a list of helpful options you wouldn't see otherwise. Once you start right-clicking, you won't stop!

That's just the start of the fun though. Here are a few of my favorite mouse tricks. Most of them work with a laptop track pad too.

DOUBLE YOUR CLICKS; DOUBLE YOUR FUn

The double-click has been around for ages. You use it every day on icons to open programs and files. That's not all it can do, however.

One step to reduce eye strain from your computer monitor

One step to reduce eye strain from your computer monitor

If your typical workday is anything like mine, much of it involves staring at a computer screen. Even when you go home at night, you have emails to return, Facebook to check and you may even watch movies on your computer screen.

That's a lot time spent staring at your monitor, which is why frequent breaks are important to avoid injury. It's not just the amount of time spent staring that can cause problems though.
At night, looking at the blue light from your monitor tricks your body into thinking it's daytime, which makes it harder for you to go to sleep. Avoiding your computer a few hours before hitting the hay is a solution, but not always practical.

Fortunately, there's a free program that solves this very problem.

f.lux is a free download that automatically adjusts your monitor's color temperature according to the time of day. So at night it shifts your monitor to a red tint, which won't mess with your sleep pattern.

AV-Comparatives tested 16 different products, including some of the most reputable names in mobile security like Lookout, ESET, Sophos, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, F-Secure, and Avast!, among others. They put each suite through its paces, testing to see if it caught all of the over 3,000 malware applications they tried to slip past it, and how much battery drain each app was responsible for. Maximum PC explains:

Microsoft Admits That Third-Party Antivirus Is More Effective Than MSE

When Microsoft Security Essentials started falling behind in effectiveness tests, we stopped recommending it. Microsoft is now officially saying that they've shifted their focus and establishing MSE as a "baseline."
PC Pro is reporting that Microsoft has "admitted Windows users should install antivirus above and beyond its own Security Essentials." In a recent interview, Holly Stewart of the Microsoft Malware Protection Center said that Microsoft has changed its approach to antivirus and aim to share their antivirus research with other companies and establish MSE as a "baseline" for other programs to build off of:

Avira Free Antivirus – Up Close & Personal

avira-logo

Programs may come and programs may go but there is one piece of software which has always been an essential part of most user’s setup and remains so to this day… antivirus. Sure, you may come across the odd comment from someone expounding on how they don’t use or need antivirus but that’s not a stance I agree with, certainly not for the vast majority of internet users anyway.
Over the years, the big 3 have been at the fore in the free antivirus stakes, Avast, Avira, and AVG. About 4 months ago I uninstalled my long time favorite, Avast, and installed Avira Free Antivirus. No need to go into the reasoning here, suffice to say that I was getting a little fed up with some of Avast’s tactics with the latest versions.
Anyway, four months on and I am happy to report that I am very satisfied with Avira’s overall performance. Avira’s free package is not quite as comprehensive as the other major contenders, there is no email protection included for example, but Avira’s superior core detection rates more than make up for any missing periphery. Besides, Avira will still spring into action whenever the user attempts to open anything malicious.

How do You Change the Cell Color in Excel 2010

There is a tool in Excel that allows you to very quickly and easily change the color of a selected cell. That would be the Fill color tool, which can be found on the Formatting toolbar or the Home tab of your Ribbon and has a small paint bucket and color sample. If you click on it, that sample color will be applied to the cell or cells you have selected. Only the color of the cell will change. Your font color will remain the same.
If you click on the drop-down arrow at the right-hand side of the tool, a color palette will be displayed. To select the color of your choice, click your mouse on one of the colored squares. This color will then be applied to the cell or cells you have selected.

3 Amazing Ways to Keep Your Cool as the Temperatures Rise

3 Amazing Ways to Keep Your Cool as the Temperatures Rise
As soon as you feel yourself about to lose it, mentally switch on your internal video camera.
Road rage, impatience, yelling at customer service executives, staff and employees, and practically anyone, is more frequent as the temperature rises. Try to remember that you are not the only one in the sweltering heat, but everyone you come across is going through the same and carrying their own loads too.

"Anyone can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose and in the right way - that's not easy." - Aristotle

I refer to this quote often, because as much as I understand that anger is not good or bad, the intensity, place and person it is expressed to can sometimes be wrong for everyone involved.

Vodafone doubles mobile internet rates for 2G, 3G subscribers

Vodafone raises mobile internet rates by 100%

Vodafone India has doubled its mobile Internet rates for 2G and 3G customers across the country, and it is being implemented in a phased manner.

The company had in November last year reduced the rates by up to 80 per cent to 2 paisa per 10 KB, from 10 paisa per 10 KB.
When contacted, a Vodafone spokesperson said: "Vodafone following its price change in November 2013 has revised its mobile Internet charges for Pay as Go (PAYG) users. At 4p/10KB, Vodafone still offers most attractive and lowest standard mobile Internet charges in the industry for pre-paid and post-paid customers.
