How To Install Microsoft SQL 2000 Client Tools on Windows 7

Guide Overview


This is a guide that explains how to successfully install Microsoft SQL 2000 Client Tools on Windows 7 64-Bit and 32-Bit. 

Process

  1. Insert the installation media that contains Microsoft SQL 2000 Standard
     
  2. Navigate to \x86\setup\ and run the file setupsql.exe
     
  3. You will be prompted by Microsoft's Program Compatibility Assistant (PCA) warning you that this software has known compatibility issues.

    Dismiss this message by clicking Run Program
  4. PCA will appear again, once again dismiss this message by clicking Run Program

  5. Due to the dialogue boxes that have been created by PCA, setup will always run minimized. Click the setup icon in the task bar to restore the setup window.
  6. You will then see an application error dialogue explaining Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition server component is not supported on this operating system and that only client components will be available for installation.

  7. You will then enter the setup process - follow this process by pressing the next button.

    You will discover most of the options are greyed out or disabled.

  8. After the Software License Agreement you will be asked to enter the 25-digit CD-Key - this should be included with the installation media documentation.

  9. For the step called Installation Definition choose Client Tools Only

  10. Select or deselect the various components (Tools) available depending on your requirements.

  11. Begin the installation process by clicking Next on the Start Copying Files screen.

  12. Exit the setup by clicking Finish

  13. The Client Tools should have been installed to the following Start-Menu location:

    All Programs\MS SQL Server
