Android Wear – A Wearable Droid

Android Wear was first unveiled back in March, but it wasn’t until today that Google has announced that the platform is ready to hit the market.

It is obvious that Android Wear has matured over the course of the last few months. It looks and feels like a finished product, however Google did not introduce any new features in the final version. Regardless of hardware it is running on, Android Wear functions as an extension for your phone. It allows you to quickly view your notifications and Google Now cards as well as use applications designed specifically for smartwatches.

For example, with just a few taps you can order pizza or download a recipe for a tasty pasta salad. Even if your hands are busy kneading the dough, you can still use your voice to ask your watch a question and have the answer displayed directly on your wrist.
Android Wear comes with a simple card-based interface that you can navigate with gestures and swipes. There is also an array of fitness tracking-features, which can turn your smartwatch into a personal trainer.
First Android Wear-powered devices, the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, will be available to order from the Play Store later today, while the circular Moto 360 is scheduled to arrive in the summer.
