Here I am sharing a tutorial on how to Speed up Internet Connection using Google Public DNS. This works with all the Windows i.e Windows XP , 7 and 8.
What we are going to do here is that we will change our DNS . A good DNS helps you in internet speed,remove page loading errors, faster downloads and many more features. The two best DNS services available are Open DNS and Google Public DNS. But here we are going to use Google Public DNS.

What is DNS ?

First of all you need to know what is DNS. DNS is an abbreviation for Domain Name System. DNS is naming system for computers ,websites etc. connected to the Internet. What DNS basically does is that it translates host-names into IP addresses to locate computers and Websites on the Internet.
For example all the websites such as Google, Facebook and all other websites have their own IP addresses and the computer servers use these IP addresses to locate the website and open it into your browser.

Speed Up Internet Connection Using Google Public DNS

Now lets talk about Google Public DNS. Google DNS is a free service by Google to speed up Internet. That is Google DNS acts as an alternative to your current DNS provider. Google DNS allows you to use IP addresses like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your own new DNS servers.

How to Speed Up Internet Connection Using Google Public DNS

Follow the below steps to speed up your Internet connection using Google DNS
  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Now click “Network and Sharing Center” and then select “Change adapter settings” (for Windows 7/vista/8). (Windows XP users got to Control Panel>>‘Network and Internet Connections’ or ‘Network Connections’ ).
  3. Here you need to select your connection in order to apply Google Public DNS. Such as
    1. To change the settings for a non-wireless connection, you need to right-click ‘Local Area Connection’ and then click on ‘Properties’.
    2. To change settings of a wireless connection that you have, you need to right-click ‘Wireless Network Connection’ and then go into ‘Properties’.
  4. Click on the ‘Networking tab’ . Here you can change the setup for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
  5. For TCP/IPv4 do the following steps
    1. Select TCP/IPv4 and then click on properties.
    2. Now click on ‘Use the following DNS server address’ and then click on ‘Advanced’.
    3. Now in the Advanced TCP/IPv4 settings go to ‘DNS’ Tab and if any DNS servers have been specified then delete them. And if there are no servers Specified then go to next step.
    4. Enter the IP mentioned below for ‘Preferred DNS server’ and ‘Alternate DNS ‘ server and then click on ‘OK’.
    5. Google Public DNS IP : 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

    For Tcp/IPv6 do the following
    1.  Click on TCP/IPv6 and then on Properties.
      2. Now click on ‘Use the following DNS server address’ and then click on ‘Advanced’.
      3. Now in the Advanced TCP/IPv4 settings go to ‘DNS’ Tab and if any DNS servers have been specified then delete them. And if there are no servers Specified then go to next step.
      4. Enter the amounts mentioned below for ‘Preferred DNS server’ and ‘Alternate DNS ‘ server and then click on ‘OK’.
      5. The Amounts are : 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844 .
    2. Now you have completed all the steps. Now open a browser and visit any site to see the results.
    Note: If you are using Windows XP then you have only option for Internet Protocol i.e TCP/IP  in that you need to enter these values : 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for the DNS server address.
    You can also remove Google Public DNS IP address by following the above steps and then in the Advance TCP/IP settings select the addresses and click on remove button.
    Note: You need to keep in mind that when you use Google Public DNS, Google keeps a record of your IP address for 24 hours and keeps the ISP and location record permanently with itself.
