Chrome to disable extensions not listed in Chrome Web Store

When we are online, malicious downloads and websites are the main sources that pose as threats to our personal information. All browsers are taking utmost care of protecting their users from such dangers by introducing different security blocks. Google Chrome too introduced ‘Safe Browsing’ feature so as to block such malicious downloads and websites. However, the threats can be introduced through certain extensions that are installed while using the browsers. Earlier, Google had banished toolbars & multi-purpose extensions from Chrome Web Store. Now Chrome has realized the dangers and has now enforced the policy, where extensions can be installed only if they’re listed in the Chrome Web Store.
Chrome
Earlier, Chrome had made an announcement of they are going to make it difficult for the malicious applications and malware to install unwanted and hazardous Chrome extensions secretly – and they had already removed such extensions.. And this new policy announced on May 27, 2014 is exactly that. In an official statement, Chrome mentioned about this new security policy that,

Hack Windows XP and Continue Receiving Updates

win-xp-hack

After 12 years, countless installations, good times, and bad time Microsoft decided Windows XP (Home and Professional) had reached End Of Life (EOL). Since April 8th, 2014 Microsoft no longer supplies updates, or support, for Windows XP. Well, that isn’t exactly true. If you have deep pockets and a large installation base Microsoft will provide you with updates… For a fee. Not much hope for a diehard XP user, eh? What to do? What to do? Hopefully upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8, but what if you have no choice? What if you simply refuse to make a change?
When we hear about Windows XP most assume there are only two versions, but in actuality there are many more. Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Tablet Edition, Windows Embedded, and Windows POS. These last two are cut down versions of XP built for specific tasks which in this case are for devices you probably don’t realize run Windows and Point of Sale systems (Not the POS you were thinking of!). Both the Embedded and POS versions will receive updates through 2019 and since they are essentially XP at heart wouldn’t it make sense that the updates are the same? That’s exactly what the folks over at BetaNews thought and they set out to see if they could force the Microsoft Update service to think that Windows XP was actually Windows POS and issue updates. They succeeded.

How to add a keyboard and mouse to your tablet

When Apple announced its first tablet, it was skeptical whether the device would be liked by people, but as we saw in the past year, tablet computers have grown popular amongst people with varied needs and of all age groups.
With their ultra portable size and advanced computing capabilities tablets have redefined the term mobile computing. Multi touch interfaces and the ability to understand gesture based inputs have enabled navigational wizardry like swipe and flick, which have become part of common language among tablet users.
Even though touchscreens do justice to many of the functions of a traditional computer with a keyboard and mouse, users still feel awkward using them due to the old habit of using these peripheral devices.

 # Mobile apps become the main route for compromise: Mobile phones being a major disrupter in the tech industry these days, lacks security around the apps. This makes apps a prime target for the hackers to gain access into the user systems. It. The Chief information security officer should prepare the organization for the non avoidable situations by making sure that the ‘in house’ made apps follow the required testing procedures with the recognized systems. They should also incorporate the user devices into existing standards for accessing management and begin educating the people of BYOD risks.

Firefox vs Pale Moon browser – Which one is better?

Mozilla Firefox employs the usage of an open source code to provide you with all the features, it currently has and to enhance your browsing experience. Since the source code is available easily, there are many other browsers that use the same code, with little variations to focus on something or the other. In other words, these browsers are customized for a certain feature. Pale Moon browser too, like WaterFox or CyberFox, employs Firefox code to provide you with a better speed and private searches.
If I were to describe Pale Moon browser in a sentence, it would be, “Pale Moon browser is a stripped-down version of Firefox, that leaves out certain features, to focus on speed of browsing”.  Instead of default Google search that most browsers use, Pale Moon employs DuckDuckGo search engine, so that your searches are not stored anywhere.
Let’s take a look at Pale Moon in a little more details.

Features of Pale Moon

The makers of Pale Moon browser have left out some parts of the original Firefox code to remove extra features that people seldom use. Likewise, they’ve customized the code a little to add small improvements to the browser over Firefox. It supports almost all Firefox extensions and themes. As such, it does not come preloaded with any extensions and/or themes.

How to make Android devices faster

There are many things that you can do to make your Android devices faster while making optimal use of existing resources. This is very important as most Android devices come with 512 MB RAM. Even devices with 1 GB RAM tend to be slow due to various reasons.
Use a task manager
This is the first thing I advise any Android user to do. Whether you have a dual core handset or a quad core one, using a task manager is always advised because, in smartphones, just leaving applications won't kill them. Applications thus run in the background and eat a lot of memory. This is the reason why even some devices with quad core processors and 1 GB RAM hang every now and then.

How to increase RAM on Android devices

In laptops and personal computers, users have the luxury to expand the Random Access Memory or RAM, which is crucial to a device's performance. The same facility is not available in tablets and smartphones.
However, there are applications which allow smartphone/tablet users to expand their device's RAM by a substantial amount. Take the Roehsoft RAM Expander for instance. We had used this app in one of my devices, which has only 256 MB RAM and could not run even some basic games. But after using the app, there was a noticeable change in the device's performance.
However, keep in mind that such applications require your device to be rooted and rooting a device voids its warranty. Also, rooting is advisable only for advance users and you should not try rooting your smartphone or tablet if you do not have thorough knowledge of its functioning, as during the process you may end up killing your device altogether.

5 Things You Didn't Know Your Smartphone Could Do

As the saying goes, ‘Old is Gold’; when you upgrade to new versions of current available gadgets in the market, don’t throw away your old smartphones. Instead it can be a helping hand in doing some of the works with ease and without much spending on it. Read on further to know some of the ways you can make your old smartphones useful.

1. Use it as a Wireless Router:  You can use your smartphone as a router if it has a setup called tethering or internet sharing. Most smartphones like iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Android phones provide such setup. You can turn your phone into a wifi hotspot by using a 3G sim that has a good data plan. In this way u can carry your phone in your pocket and use wifi on other devices.

It is advised that you have a password to protect the hotspot from other people using it.

2. Media Player on Your TV: You can also connect your smartphone to your TV if it has the option of connecting with HDMI cable. All you have to do is plug in one side of the cable to your phone and the other end to your TV. Once you are connected, then what appears on your phone will appear on your TV, whether it is pictures, games, videos or surfing the web. It is more efficient to use an SD card of 32 GB or 64 GB so that you can copy as many movies and songs as you like.

Top 5 WiFi data cards

Though mobile phones come with 3G connectivity, feature phones and many tablets do not have the facility to access the same on their own. Moreover, even though Android devices have ability to create WiFi hotspot, in doing so they can lose a lot of battery charge in a quick time. Hence, WiFi data cards are so important.

Here we have five such data cards with ability to create WiFi hotspot.

Huawei E5151
Huawei E5151 is pocket WiFi device that can support upto 10 devices and claims to offer 21.6 Mbps speed. It has a full sized SIM card slot, so you can use a 3G SIM card to create WiFi hotspot, no need to plug in a data card or the LAN cable though it has provisions for both too.
The E5151 has a 1500 mAh Lithium-Ion battery, which provides about 5 hours of talktime. With a dimension of 92.8x63.5x16.3mm, Huawei E5151 supports Standard Micro USB. It has several LED indicators for Ethernet, Signal, WiFi, Battery and SMS.

But with OK Google, all you have to do is, click on the mic icon and sayEnable “OK Google”.

Microsoft announces Windows 8.1 with Bing, a new edition of Windows

Today generally many smaller devices like tablets running Windows have a higher price point, since the cost of the OS is high – although some economical versions of the devices are available too. Earlier, we were told that Windows will be free for OEM devices with screen size 9 inch or less. Then with the release of Windows 8.1 Update, the minimum system requirements were lowered to 1GB of RAM and 16GB of hard disk. With aggressive memory management and different installation options, Windows 8.1 Update can now take advantage of this and can provide more free space to users. Thus, taking all these factors into account, many devices specially tablets at lower price point running Windows 8.1, will be seen.
