Acer Aspire Switch 10 convertible laptop specs

If you have love for Windows 8 and tablet devices, the recent entrant into the convertible market – Acer Aspire Switch 10 is worth checking out. The machine with aluminum chassis looks suitably robust and like a miniature MacBook, shipping with Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 alongside at no additional cost.

Acer Aspire Switch 10 stands out amongst other recently revealed convertible laptops owing to its detachable hinge design which allows the 10.1 –inch device functioning in tablet mode to readily switch to laptop mode. It is actually a 2-in-1 hybrid with four modes:

  1. Notebook
  2. Pad
  3. Display
  4. Tent
All the modes are possible thaks to the Acer Snap Hinge – the name given to unique HINGE DESIGN. It employs magnetic connectors that allow the display and dock to attach without the need of a lock latch. So, the display can be easily detached to function as a standalone tablet; or turned around and placed backwards on the keyboard dock to enter stand mode. The design Acer claims is and appears to anyone who is reviewing the product sturdy enough to hold the device in place. Besides, just by placing light pressure on the display and the dock, the display body can be separated.
Acer Aspire Switch 10 is incredibly portable at only 2.54 pounds, although there are minor weight balancing issues. For instance, magnetic hinge present on the rear side adds weight to the rear-end of the keyboard. Running into specifications, 10.1 inch convertible features an Intel Atom Z3745 processor. Hopefully, the Atom will give it enough performance as even Acer quad core A6 AMD V5 122P machines are horridly slow. The built also supports 2GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics and up to 64GB of eMMC memory.
Another important characteristic that Acer boasts about the machine is “Zero Gap” bonding, which supposedly helps to reduce on-screen glare. The screen on the Aspire Switch 10 is a 1366×768 display. However, we would have preferred to see a full HD 1080p display. In my opinion it is this entry-level screen that has likely helped Acer to keep the price low. Hopefully, Acer will respond to the queries, should there be any event of the misfortune. Track record suggests Acer Support is so as would be expected froma  company of that standing.
