What’s new with WINDOWS 8 OS and why it may be a worthy upgrade

What’s new with this OS and why it may be a worthy upgrade
Question: What advantage does Microsoft have with their Windows 8 release that iOS or Android developers don’t? 231 – that’s the number of markets the Seattle-based company has already penetrated and doesn’t have to create afresh. Microsoft isn't resting comfortably on that particular laurel – they’re in it to win it with Windows 8 (never mind the failures of XP and Vista); this time they have apparently designed an OS not from a software developer’s perspective, but from that of a consumer and his desired User Interface.
Thanks to that, there are colourful Tiles which use up a good deal of screen real estate. Windows 8 for home users will retail in two iterations for laptops/desktops/PCs: Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro – the latter designed to support additional functionalities. Windows 8 Enterprise is built to support businesses. Apart from that, there’s a lighter version of the OS known as Windows 8 RT that has been designed for lower-powered devices like tablets and optimized for touch. The cheaper variant of the Microsoft Surface Tablet will run Windows 8 RT, while the Intel processor toting Surface will operate on Windows 8 Pro.
Microsoft has clearly demonstrated that with the new OS, multi-tasking will be aided much more than is possible with an iPad. Windows 8 allows you to split the screen with two apps running simultaneously on the device. In addition to rolling out Windows 8 on the Surface, Microsoft has gone on a blitzkrieg and ensured a great deal of visibility for the OS, and soon. That’s why they’ve tied up with hardware manufacturers Samsung, Sony, Lenovo, Asus and Acer (among others) and promised to announce a slew of Windows 8 devices over the next few weeks.
If you currently use XP, Vista or Windows 7, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for Rs 1,999. However, don’t kick yourself if you just bought Windows 7 – users who purchased the OS after June 1, 2012 can download Windows 8 Pro for just Rs 699.
