How to Lock a Folder with a Password on Windows 7

If you lock a folder in Windows you will need to login as an administrator. You will also need to use this password to open the locked folders when prompted.

1. Right click the folder which you want to protect and click Properties to open a new window.
2. Click the Security tab to get a screen as shown below.

7. Click Yes button and now your folder is locked for all specific users you selected. They will be able to unlock the folder only if they enter administrative password. You will be able to perform all the above steps only from an administrative login.

  1. It is possible to put a password on your chosen file or folder with Folder Password Expert. I do not know why this software wasn't mentioned in the blog post because it is one of the most reputable applications of its type.
