Microsoft: Welcome to Windows 10

It's been referred to by Microsoft insiders as 'Windows vNext', by its internal development codename 'Threshold', and even by the placeholder title of 'Windows TH' - but today, Microsoft revealed that its next major OS will not get the name that we all expected, Windows 9. 

It will instead be called Windows 10.
   

The company briefly joked that the name of the new Windows would actually be 'Windows One' - but noted that 'Windows 1' (or 1.0, if you prefer), has been done before.

Quite why Microsoft ultimately chose to leapfrog version 9 entirely will no doubt be a matter that is endlessly discussed in days to come. However, Microsoft's Terry Myerson said that Windows 10 is a more appropriate name, given the extent of the changes in this release versus the previous version.

Government To Launch Skill Development Centres

The government will launch skill development training centres on a large scale to address the problem of unemployment, particularly in rural India, Rural Development Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

Windows 9 said to be free (again), this time by a Microsoft official

We have been hearing for some time that Windows 9 could be free, and thanks to a Microsoft official in Indonesia, the rumors are looking like they will be true. The information is said to come from Andreas Diantoro, who, according to his LinkedIn profile, is the president of Microsoft Indonesia.

According to the source article, Diantoro said that for users upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 9, the upgrade will be free. Just like we heard back in late June, Microsoft is hoping to move all of its users to its latest platform, and by removing the cost of entry, this should be a big motivator.

Aadhaar-based biometric attendance systems for central government employees will be fully operational by the end of this month.

"The biometric attendance system for central employees will be fully functional by the end of this month,"Information Technology Secretary Ram Sevak Sharma told PTI.

According to Sharma, the attendance of the employees can be tracked through a website, attendence.gov.in, which would be fully operational by the month-end.

The website is expected to bring more transparency as it would provide and update information about central government employees on real-time basis.

Testing of SP-COD articles; Total confusion made severe headache

Dummy SP-COD articles made sever headache today in all most all offices where it received. The process of live testing cannot be completed in majority of offices due to confusion regarding despatch of Returned Sender SP-COD articles.  Most of them were failed to send the same through Despatch module.

Proper instructions regarding the despatch of SP-COD articles were not circulated through proper channel. Even though the instruction was available in the CEPT ftp site, the information was not reached in the Post Office level. 

The speed post centres received SP-COD articles through their regular bag which normally includes articles to be delivered under the area of some other sub-offices.  But these articles cannot be transferred to postman module.  This was another confusion in this regard.

The ‘Returned to sender’ SP-COD articles should be despatched through SpeedNet module.  No need to fetch these articles from Postman module to SpeedNet.  It can close the speed post bag including these RTS SP-COD articles after taking returns in Postman module.

Post October, Microsoft will stop sending copies of Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium or Ultimate to PC makers, which will be able to sell off (but not replenish) remaining stock. A cut-off date for Windows 7 Pro is yet to be announced. 

The move is a not-so-subtle nudging of users toward Windows 8, which has struggled to find its footing since launching in 2012. According to figures from NetMarketShare, 13.4% of PC users are using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, compared with 51.2% on Windows 7 and 23.89% running the 12-year-old OS Windows XP.

An outbound request, for example, is when you use your browser to load a web page. You have made a request of a computer on the Internet to deliver this page to your computer. 1.  Download the 2 script files viz., 'TestCustomerSPCOD_Script_POSPCC19092014.exl' and 'SPCOD_ePaymentOffices_Data_01052014.exl'.
2.  Run the above mentioned 2 script files using Meghdoot Scripter after taking database backups.

    ii.  If customer entry for 'TEST SP COD CUSTOMER' is available, then proceed to next step.
