On the way to its current prestigious position, Google saw many ups and downs, as goes with any company around the globe. Its hard earned-position is the result of marvelous products as well as failed ventures.

Google successfully embarked on with the journey best known to the world. Let us learn more about the company’s hits and misses in the business world, as compiled by CNBC.

Search Engine: Hit

The tremendous success of Google’s search engine is evident from the world using it to find various things in everyday life.

The search engine was launched in 1997 and in an amazing manner, it took over other existing search engines, and currently, it heeds to more than 3 billion search requests, each passing day.

The search engine helps people get answers to their queries in the most accurate and relevant manner. Basically, Google Search is the core business of the Google and hopefully will never fade out.

Google+: Miss

Google+ was launched amidst many speculations and expectations. It was cited to overtake Facebook on social media sites.

It was launched in 2011 with many new features and various options for becoming more socially active with ease and comfort.

Though it gathered pace in its initial days with options like Hangouts, video chats allowing maximum 10 people to connect at a single time and Circles, which let users choose groups with which they share and content.

Later, it just faded away with tough competitors advancing over. Google+ lost its charm and has now become a quite spectator on social media sites, but in marketing world, top brands have more followers in Google+ rather than any other sites.

Android: Hit

Today, owning an Android phone has become an essential part of life and a great help in regulating daily chores with ease. The mobile market is flooded with Android SmartPhones, which was first launched in 2008.

Google bought the developer back in 2005 and since then it has been gaining much popularity in software industry and is dominating the mobile market.

By the first quarter of this year, Android acquired an 81.1 percent global market share, according to International Data Corporation. Android is packed with amazing features and applications like, Gmail, Google Maps and many more.

Buzz: Miss

Buzz was supposed to make a grand entry into the social media sites, drawing people towards it. It was launched in 2010, and was available along with Gmail as a special feature.

As every product launched by Google turns heads in its direction, Buzz did too, but couldn’t survive for long as it lacked proper response to this feature; Buzz was shut down in 2011.

Buzz possessed features similar to Facebook and Twitter with “like” and microblogging options, and also allowed to streamline content from other software.

Sadly, Buzz was too similar to its present competitors in the market and concerns about privacy and other factors led to its sad demise.

Gmail: Hit

Almost everyone around the globe uses Gmail for accessing and drafting mails. The Gmail history started on April fool’s Day, 2004, and since then, its gaining momentum never stopped. It provided users free service with better visibility and blazing speed.

Many opted for Gmail over other free e-mail service providers as it gave awesome storage capacity, and smooth sorting of important mails from hundreds.

In 2012, it achieved the top rank as the world’s largest e-mail provider leaving behind Microsoft’s Hotmail; and currently serves to more than a million people around the globe with added features for storage like, cloud-based Google Docs and more.

Google Glass: Miss

Google Glass was supposed to be a landmark product in the history of Google, but sadly, it didn’t turn out the way it was expected. The wearable lens contains features such as apps and a camera.

It gives notifications to users, and enables them to read and take pictures effortlessly. Google Glass, as it became available to the general masses, it drew lot of attention and curiosity.

But the product seemed to fade out of the market and from the memories of the people among speculations that Google Glass can lead to distracted driving and secret recording of data and other information.

YouTube: Hit

YouTube, the video sharing site bought by Google in 2006 is one of its top scorers as well. YouTube has surged to become the third most visited site in the world, according to Google. The site is profitable and is mincing profits for the company, according to media reports as Google does not reveal YouTube’s monetary gains. YouTube has become a part of our life, which fulfills our demand of watching a video, movie or songs and can barely be ignored.
