How to remove FunMoods

virus infection slow computer
Funmoods is a piece of Adware that often gets installed as part of another program and hijacks your browser. While in itself it is nothing more than an annoyance it can leave the door open for other more malicious applications.
If you have installed the funmoods program you will notice a few things change. The first thing you may notice is that your homepage will be changed to the funmoods search page. You may also notice that you have a new toolbar or add-on in your browser that is showing the funmoods toolbar. Finally you may notice pop ups or that searches are directed through the funmoods website or other third-party websites as oppose to your original search engine.
This tutorial will show you how to remove funmoods from your computer and regain control of your browsers homepage and search settings.

Removing FunMoods via the control panel

Your first step in ridding yourself of the funmoods annoyance is to ensure you remove the program from your computer via the add/remove programs on your computer.

Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8

  1. Open the control panel by click the start/windows button in the bottom left corner of your screen and then selecting control panel on the right hand side.
  2. In Windows 8 the control panel is accessed a different way. Bring up the side bar you use when you close down the computer on the right hand side. Go to settings and under settings (the second on the list) you should see Control Panel.
  3.  If your view is set to category view you will see “uninstall a program” at the bottom of your screen under programs. Select this. If you are in large or small icon view you need to find the icon that says “Programs and features”
  4. You should now have a screen that loads all of the programs currently installed on your computer. Scroll down to funmoods and then click uninstall on the top bar. (See image)

Remove Funmoods from your browsers

While you can manually change your search provider back and change your homepage it is sometimes easier just to reset the web browser to its default settings which is what we are going to do for the purpose of this tutorial. It is worth noting that in some browsers this may delete any saved logins so if you save your login details to particular websites they will need to be re-entered. It will not affect your favourites. It may also remove any add-ons that you have in some browsers like Firefox.

Internet Explorer

  1. Open the control panel again (see above) but this time instead of uninstall program we want to go to internet options. If you are using category view you will need to go to “Network and Internet” and then select “Internet Options”
  2. On the new window select the advanced tab. At the bottom of the tab you should see an option that says “reset internet explorer settings” with a reset button. Press the reset button.
  3. In the next screen you can tick “delete personal settings”,  although this is not essential it is best for a complete clean. Next press reset. After pressing reset Internet explorer will go through the process of resetting internet explorer that may take a few minutes.

Firefox

  1. Open a new Firefox window and on the top menu bar select the help option. From the drop down list select Troubleshooting Information.
  2. A new window will open and on the top right hand side of the screen you will see a button that says “Reset Firefox”
In the pop-up window select reset Firefox to reset the browser.

Chrome

  1. Open a new Chrome window.
  2. In the address box type chrome://settings to open the settings page. Alternatively you can click the box on the far right side next to the address bar (the one that looks like 3 lines) and then select settings.
  3. Once in the settings page scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue link that says show advanced settings. This will extend the number of options you have. Again scroll to the bottom of the page where you will find a button that says “Reset browser settings”
  4. On the next screen simply click Reset.
