Trend Micro Anti-Threat Tool Kit: Removes Boot, MBR malware too

Trend Micro Anti-Threat Toolkit (ATTK) is a new malware support tool that replaces the SystemInformationCollector (SIC) Tool. This standalone software can be pretty useful as a second-opinion on-demand antivirus scanner, if you suspect that your main security software may have missed some malware.

Trend Micro Anti-Threat Tool Kit

Once you have downloaded Trend Micro Anti-Threat Toolkit, simply run the attk .exe file. You will see a command prompt window popup to show system forensic analysis progress and carry out some operations.

After this, a browser window will appear. Click Proceed to send the information the tool collects to Trend Micro Technical Support. You will receive a temporary ID number that you can use when you contact Trend Micro Technical Support. If you think you will not require support, you may skip this part.

Now the main  windows of the program will open. As is the case with most second-opinion scanners and removers, the user interface is pretty straight forward. You can via the Settings link, also select the files and folders you want scanned. You have to click on the Scan Now button to start the scan, and the scan will commence.

Once the scan is completed, you will be presented with a list of malware files found – if any, with options to remove the virus and other malicious files. Go through the list carefully.
If some Boot files are found to be infected with malware, the tool will prompt you to install Clean Boot tool. Click on the Install Clean Boot link to install the modules from the Trend Micro site. Follow the instructions and you will be asked to reboot.
On reboot you the Windows Boot Manager black screen will show you and additional Trend Micro Clean Boot. Select it. This will start the process.
Once this is completed, restart your Windows and select your OS. The scan results will be displayed. You can see the fixed entries here.
The tool can help detect and remove Viruses, Spyware, Worms, Trojans, Rootkits, Rogue software, and also scans for Autorun entries Network connections, Host file, running processes, Boot and MBR files and loaded DLL files.
