How to Download YouTube Videos For Free Without Software

Recently, YouTube has cracked down on video downloads via software and plugins for browsers. It does make sense though, if everyone downloads videos, YouTube loses traffic. So you might have noticed that some of your plugins, downloaders or even Maxthon doesn’t let you download videos anymore. All is not lost though, you can still download videos, that too without using any software. Here’s how to download YouTube videos for free, without any software!

Downloading YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion Videos for Free

A quick search on Google will yield many results to keep downloading videos from sites like YouTube, but a lot of them force you download a program or sign up for a paid subscription. They cannot be trusted, and your best bet is a site that gives you links to download your desired video by copy pasting the URL. Since most of these sites use the Java applet to do so, it can be dangerous to let them run, what with the vulnerabilities and all. However there is one site that keeps it simple and doesn’t install malware, called KeepVid. Here’s how you use it:
Step 1 – Go to the KeepVid website.
Step 2 – Copy the URL of your desired video and paste it completely in the space given.
Step 3 – Click “Download”. The site should now ask you to install a Java Applet, let it install and run on this site.
Step 4 – Select the quality and format of your choice and click to download it.
Alternatively, you can click and drag the little KeepVid Bookmarklet on the top right to your toolbar. With this you can directly land at the download page when you click it while watching a video.
You can also add “ss” to the begining of a YouTube URL to get redirected to a page with download links. Example: http://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=xxxxxx. Note that you can download videos from a host of providers, not just YouTube. It’s an easy way to download videos without having to deal with untrustworthy software.
