FIX: New command missing in Windows Explorer on Windows 7

After updating Internet Explorer with the Windows Desktop Update component if, when you click the File menu in Windows Explorer, you find the New command to be missing , or when you right-click the desktop, you find that the New command is missing from the context menu, then this article may interest you!
This might be happen due to a registry file missing or getting corrupted. It therefore involves changing a registry value.
To do so:
1. Click on Start Menu and under search type in Regedit, to open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New\ (Default)
3. Value for (Default): {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}
4. This registry entry only exists if the Windows Desktop Update component is installed. If the Windows Desktop Update component is not installed, add the registry entry and (Default) value.
KB180257 also recommends that you first backup your Registry!
