VLC player is a great application to play all sorts of your media files. But what if you want to watch a movie with subtitles, but the file you have acquired has none? Don’t panic, you can add them yourself! It really is simple, once you know how to do it. Here’s a quick run down:
First of all you need to download a subtitle file for your movie. If your source was a DVD or Blu-ray file, please make sure to search for a subtitle file that matches that particular media type. Once you have downloaded the file, now you want to move the subtitle file into the same folder as your video file.
Next, rename the subtitle file with exactly the same name as your video file, so you have two files such as; samplevideo.avi and samplevideo.srt.
That’s it. Now you can play your video in VLC Player and you should see subtitles appear over your movie. If for any reason you don’t, then check the .srt file has been renamed correctly to match the video file. Now just close and restart VLC before playing the file again.
