A recent study conducted at Lifespan Clinic India on 4,000 patients revealed that 15 percent of 65 million diabetics in India are under the age of 40.
1.5 Crore! Aren’t these people aware of the disease?
High Cholesterol level was the root cause of increase in the number of type 2 diabetics in the country. Diabetes is spreading in staggering figures, lack of care and treatment, medicines may be the reason for a tremendous growth of 1.5 crore diabetics in the country.
“Gone are the days when a particular disease would afflict only a particular class of people or particular age-group or particular gender. This is all myth,” revealed by the Lifespan, India’s leading diabetic medical diagnostic service provider.
Lifespan studies identified that a diabetic has to resist disorders such as High Blood Pressure, High Blood Cholesterol, and coronary Heart Diseases among which High Blood Pressure is considered as the primary cause of Heart Stroke and other problems.
Bad Eating habits and desk- bound life style among the younger Indians is the primary concern. Head of Endocrinology, Medanta Dr Ambrish Mithal said, "Current figures estimate young people in the prime are getting affected."
It is estimated that by 2030 around 8.3 per cent of India’s adult population will have diabetes. Lifespan Sample span analysis suggested that 70 per cent of male diabetics in India are getting proper treatment while only 30 per cent of women get treatment for the same.
It is assumed that if this steady growth of diabetics in India retains for the next 20 years or so India will surpass China for the first position becoming a Diabetic Hub. The situation is an alarming one and has to be dealt with iron hands. Doctor’s Mantra is to consume less fatty and deep fried food items and a little exercise will do the needful
