Google Maps – Free Location Maps for your Mobile Device

Google Maps is a web mapping service that offers panoramic views of streets and satellite imagery.
It also illustrates them with excerpts from Wikipedia articles. You may not know how much this free mapping service offers. Even if you are familiar with Google Maps for iPhone and Android phones, chances are you do not realize how much this free program offer.
To begin with, it is worth noting that Google Maps is not the only Google’s mapping service. Google has other mapping services, such as Google Earth and Waze. Google Earth and Waze are not as popular as Google Maps but offer many services you won’t find in Google Maps. Google Earth is an application that works on a PC and can work offline after installation.

Having said that, you have used Google Maps Street View feature but you never knew that it works in 3D. Of course, the app provides stunning multidimensional views of buildings and landscapes. Cars and other smaller details are more realistic than before. They no longer look like they have been flattened. The latest version also boasts of sharper graphics. Even so, the image quality is largely dependent on your device since it can take quite a long time for such images to load properly.
The app can now show up the traffic condition in many parts. Though the feature is not available for everyone, Google is still rolling it out. Waze – a Google-owned – community-based navigation app – is arguably the best app for drivers and other road users. It helps drivers know the traffic condition of a place before travelling. Google Maps has also tried to offer these services, but not as detailed as Waze.
Google Maps offer a variety of other incredible features including satellite imagery. The program comes with an Application Programing Interface (API), which enable Maps to be integrated on third party sites. It can also help people locate businesses and government offices all over the globe.
Google Maps was originally designed as a desktop program before it expanded to mobile devices. Google Inc. acquired the software in October 2004. It was in the same month when Google purchased Keyhole, a company that created Earth Viewer also known as Google Earth.
Google Maps for Android phones was releasedin November 2009. The first releasewas limited to the US. The UK followed it in April 2010. Since then the service has expanded to other countries around the world.
Most mobile phone users have not realized that Google Maps can be used offline as well. Typically, users receive the map data via 3G or WI-FI but if they travel to places with no network, it means they cannot use the service. The good news is that one can download the relevant part of the map before hos or she travels. Simply go to the menu button and select “Make available offline”.
Using Google Maps does not have to be a difficult task. The app has a simple and clean interface. You can try your hands at this.
