Windows Updates is a really good feature in Windows as it helps us to keep our PC’s up to date. But Sometimes we may want to turn off Windows Updates for many reasons. For e.g. If we are on a limited usage internet Plan or if the Speed of Internet Plan is slow. In these situations we can turn off Windows Automatic Updates to save data as well as speed up browsing.

1. Turn Off Windows Updates in Windows XP
- Open Control Panel by going to Start >> Settings >> Control Panel.
- Click on System.
- Click on the Automatic Updates Tab.
- Uncheck the Option saying Keep My Computer Up to Date
- Choose any one of the options from the three options available for notifying about Updates.

2. Turn Off Windows Updates in Vista, 7 and 8
- Open Control Panel.
- Click On System and Security.
- Under Windows Updates there is an option saying “Turn Automatic Updating On or Off“
- Now Under Important Updates choose the option which best suits your requirements.
- Under Recommended Updates Check the Box if you want to receive notification about Important Windows Updates.
- Now click on OK and you are done.

Turning off Windows Updates can save a lot of data and speed up Browsing. But do not forget to update Windows once in a while so that you do not miss any important updates such as security updates, bug fixes etc.
