Software Removal Tool 1.2.14 Beta

Scan and remove software that may cause problems with Chrome.

If you notice Chrome behaving strangely (for example, showing you unusual startup pages, toolbars, or pop-up ads you can’t get rid of), it may be due to an unwanted program on your computer.  You may be able to fix the problem by downloading and running the Software Removal Tool. The Software Removal Tool looks for programs known to cause trouble for Chrome. Think of this as a “factory reset” of Chrome. It removes programs that affect Chrome's behavior and offer to restore its original settings. These programs aren't typical cases of malware, so your antivirus or security software may not pick them up.
Common settings that are changed:

  • Search engine changes to an unfamiliar search engine
  • Homepage or start up page changes to a site you don't recognize
  • Unfamiliar extensions are added to Chrome
  • Pop-up ads are not blocked
  • Toolbars are added to Chrome
  • The Chrome desktop shortcut opens an unfamiliar website
The Software Removal Tool beta is Windows-only (all versions) and you need to have admin rights to use it.
