To avoid hackers from hacking into personal information, some precaution can be taken while using these open hotspots. It is advised that you should turn of sharing, enable firewall on your computer, use SSL whenever possible, use virtual private network, turn of wi-fi when you are not using it and lastly, run a virus scan after using the network.
4. Do I Really Need to "Eject" USB Drives? : Every time you yank your pen drive from your computer, it shows a warning about ejecting the USB drive before removing. Have you ever wondered why your computer warns you? Computers use something called write caching to improve performance. This means, when you are coping any files to the USB drive, it tells you the task is completed but many a time, it’s not. Confused? Yes, sometimes while coping files to a drive, it waits for few other tasks to complete even after the given task complete reminder. When you press eject, it finishes all the tasks before you pull out the device. So, it is always advisable to click eject for pen drives so that you avoid unnecessary loss of important data and files and corruption of projects.
5. What is online privacy? : Very few people take steps to improve their online privacy. People care about their passwords being hacked but don’t care about information posted on social networks. With social sites like Facebook and Twitter becoming popular, we knowingly or unknowingly give away all sorts of information about ourselves.
