We’re pretty sure that you have a lot of applications installed on your Android device. This means that there is a high chance that the internal memory of your device might be already full or almost full.
Well, don’t worry, because today we’re going to give you a solution to this problem. Usually when the internal memory of our device is getting almost full, we should start “moving” the applications on the SD card (in case our Android device supports one).
Even if in the official WhatsApp webpage says that you actually can’t do that for now, there is a way to do it. This short guide that we’re going to share with you below is valid for many Android devices. However, it’s important to know that some of the smartphones manufacturers put some limitations. With other words, you will need to have root permission to move an application.
Moving WhatsApp to your SD card
To do this, you will need a computer running on Windows connected to the internet and an USB cable that you will use to connect your smartphone to the computer. The procedure is pretty simple and you will need to use ADB to move applications from the internal memory of your smartphone to the SD card.
First of all, you will need to go to Settings->Developer Options(you can enable it by going to Settings->About phone and tap seven times on “Build Number”). Once you’ve reached the Developer Options, you will need to enable the “USB debugging” mode.
Now, you will need to download the latest SDK Android version on your computer from https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html?hl=i (in order to make things easier, we suggest you to make a new folder in C:\ and name it “sdktools”. After that, install the SDK Android in that folder).
After that, you will need to download the USB drivers so that your computer will recognize your Android smartphone. You can get the USB drivers from http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html.
Now you will need to connect your Android smartphone to your computer and open the prompt application. You will need to open the folder that contains the SDK by typing “cd sdktools”. Now that you’re inside the folder where you’ve installed SDK Android, you will need to get to the tools that it comes with. Type “cd sdk\platforms-tools” and check if your if your phone has been recognized by typing the “adb devices –l” command. If the device has not been recognized, disconnect it and reconnect it back to your computer. Now, type “adb shell” followed by “pm set-install location 2”.
HINT: In case you get an error try using the “setInstallLocation 2 pm” command.
After that, disconnect the Android smartphone from your computer and go to Settings->Application Management->WhatsApp. Now you will notice that the “Move to SD Card” button is enabled. By selecting “Move to SD Card” button, you will move your WhatsApp application to the SD card.
