Nero BackItUp 2014 is Nero’s latest addition to their long line of products. Nero is popular for their multimedia suite, especially their burning software which is bundled with lot of OEM providers and freeware like Nero Kwik Burn Free and Nero DiscSpeed. Nero BackItUp 2014 has a few different versions. In this article I’ll talk about their free starter product. The free version offers limited support and features, compared to premium version, but for an average users, it’s more than enough for a quick backup. The program itself is pretty easy and straight forward to use.
Nero BackItUp
Nero BackItUp is a program for backing up and restoring computer data, syncing folders, and for backing up and restoring data from your Android phone. It also provides access to the online storage Nero Cloud. Nero BackItUp is useful to schedule backups, e.g. For regular data backups that are executed automatically.
Tthe free version only offers manual backup and that too only to online storage. When you first sign up for the free Nero BackItUp 2014 you’ll get a free 5 GB space in Nero Cloud.
Now I’ll tell you how to sign up for Nero BackItUp 2014. First go the Nero BackItUp website and create an account. Just enter your e-mail address and create a password. Now you’ll get an activation e-mail in which you’ll find a link to activate your account.
Now you should have the Nero Cloud setup with 5 GB of free storage. Then you need to download the Nero BackItUp PC client from the Nero BackItUp website and install the application. Once you install it, just open the application up and click on Login and enter the username and password you have created. If you have an Android Smartphone you can also search for and download the mobile application from the Google Play Store and login to the application as well.
Now that you have successfully installed and configured the application, you can either upload the contents to the cloud website, PC or your Smartphone. I found the whole setup and uploading part very easy. It’s just 3 simple steps.
First, click on “Back Up Now”. Once you do that you will see a ‘browse window’, where you can select the folders that you need to backup. Select it and the next step will be to back it up. If you want to restore just click on restore function and follow the on-screen directions.
One of the features I like about Nero BackItUp 2014 is that their cloud storage supports HTML5. So if you upload a video, you can actually stream it and download it if you want.
To conclude Nero BackItUp 2014 is a good software for doing some basic backup like documents etc. But doesn’t really offer a lot like Carbonite, Dropbox or SkyDrive, who are already established in this domain. But if you don’t want to say no to free 5GB space in the cloud, go get it from the Nero BackItUp website.
