Yes, the operating system Windows 7 is a fairly fast OS, it comes filled with many interesting features, it makes optimum use of system resources, and it looks great too. But, as with every other operating system, Windows 7 is not perfect. Moving to Windows 7 must have made you realize certain upgrade issues, missing features, and interface problems. If it’s not about features, it’s about bugs. As annoying as some of the bugs are, all we are looking for is a quick solution to these issues.
Here is a list of the most common Windows 7 Operating System problems and their solutions:
1. Aero Not Working:
So you find the aero theme not working on your system. You can easily solve this problem by:
- Start
- Type in the words ‘Aero’.
- Choose to- Find and fix problems link.
- Click on next to launch Aero troubleshooting wizard.
Your Aero troubleshooting wizard is equipped to identify and resolve problems.
2. Windows 7 Themes Change All The Custom Icons Too:
When you use new themes of Windows 7, you will notice that all the previously changed icons on your system get replaced by an icon from the theme. That means all your custom icons are replaced by theme icons. You can prevent your system from doing so by:
- Right click on any part of your Desktop that’s empty
- Choose personalize
- Select change desktop icons
- Disallow changes to your desktop icons appearance
This will make sure that any changes in your theme will not make your custom icons to change their appearance.
3. Explorer Tools Missing:
In Windows 7 OS, you might find the explorer tools missing. You’ll find that control panel, recycle bin and other system folders are missing in Windows 7 start menu. There is a quick fix solution to make the ‘missing’ explorer tools reappear.
- Open Tools
- Choose Folder options
- Select Show all folders.
4. Windows Too Slow:
Windows 7 is an operating system that draws heavily on your system’s resources. It comes with many visual effects that uses system memory and graphics card to a large extent. If you find your system not working to its optimum level, you could easily turn off extra effects. Otherwise,
- Start
- Select Performance.
- Choose appearance and performance window.
- Under performance option window, select visual effects
- Choose the ‘adjust for best performance’ tab.
5. DVD Drive Missing:
There is another issue with Windows 7; it sometimes won’t locate your DVD Drive. This problem involves registry editing. But before we proceed to find solutions to this problem, remember that editing anything in the registry has the potential to cause permanent damage to your Windows. To resolve this issue,
- Start
- Launch regedit from the results
- Go to Local Machine- System- Control-Class
- Delete upper filters and lower filters
- Restart and check results.
If the problem doesn’t get resolved, you must try to:
- Start
- Disk Management
- Create hard disk partitions
- Change drive letters and paths from optical drive
- Choose new drive letter
- Restart
This must resolve the issue of missing DVD Drive.
6. Not Compatible With Older Programs:
Before upgrading to Windows 7, it is advisable that you perform a compatibility check with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. If after trying to install Windows 7 OS you come to realize that your program is not compatible, you could try installing Windows 7 using Compatibility Mode.
To install programs in compatibility mode:
- Select installation file
- Properties
- Compatibility tab
- Run program in compatibility mode
- Choose Windows latest version from pull down menu.
- Repeat the process until you install all the programs
- Right click to choose the program icon.
- Select the properties tab
- Choose to run the OS in compatibility mode.
7. Vista Upgrade Hangs:
Even before you finish installing Windows 7 OS, you might run in to installation issues. Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 can, at times, cause your system to hang at 62%. And if it’s not at 62%, then you might try booting and installing Windows 7 from disc.
If your system hangs at 62% installation process, you can try rebooting your system. When you reboot, your computer will come back to its Windows Vista stage. Once in Vista, open the setup log file to know what caused the hang-up. The hang up could happen when Iphlpsvc service stops responding. When an environment variable is added, this service gets activated.
