Tips to troubleshoot computer hangs

Electronic gadgets come with their own share of problems. A computer is no exception to this rule. It freezes or stops running due to various reasons. In such situations tips to trouble shoot computer hangs come very handy. The major tips for troubleshooting are listed below.

1. Save the work done more often. In case you are on the internet often, save the work as draft and then edit it. If you are working on a document, remember to click the save button every now and then. This is a quick fix action.

2. Control-Alt-Delete, the three finger salute to fix a hanged computer. This will make the windows task manager appear on screen. The computer will tell you which software is functioning and which is not.

3. It is advisable to click end task on the software or applications that tend to freeze and often refuse to respond.

4. If the above mentioned tips do not work out, then simply press Control-Alt-Delete once more and shut down the computer.



5. Another option is to press and hold the button on the front of the computer to fix it when it has hung up.


6. In the next step what one can do is, pull the power cord and leave it just like that for ten minutes till it freezes. This will allow the computer to ‘reset’ and fix itself when it hangs up. After this push the power button and start the computer normally.

7. Preferably close all applications and run the one that you need. Computer tends to hang up when too many software programmes run at the same time. Try and open two or three programmes at a time.

8. If your computer feels too hot if touched, it might be due to overheating. This can be fixed by using a blow-off duster by the fan area. If this fails to yield results, go for professional evaluation.

9. If the computer refuses to respond to a particular website, avoid visiting the website. In case a web browser freezes continually, uninstall it and then reinstall it. Preferably try to use another web browser which has more speed and quality.

10. Keep a check on viruses and spywares. These lead to computers to hang more than often. Always run a spyware and antivirus check to fix this problem. Also make sure that security software is properly installed and updated regularly.

11. The internet connection can be responsible at times because of this. Get in touch with your internet service provider for technical support and assistance. Sometimes due to an outside problem, the computer may stop functioning.

Apart from the above mentioned tips, the following simple tips can be followed to troubleshoot computer hangs:

1. Restart the computer programme. Many of the software programmes will correct themselves if you do this.

2. Check your cables, wires and the keyboard as well. The mouse should also be taken care of.

3. Make sure that the computer and the monitor are properly plugged in.

4. It is advisable that you disconnect peripheral devices such as printers and restart the computer.

5. Watch out for unusual sounds such as noise from the hard drive or other such devices.

Freezing of computers is a very common problem which can be fixed easily if proper steps are followed carefully.
