How Music Could Help Your Health

Dealing with an illness is always a challenge. There are physical symptoms to deal with that can cause any number of problems, from fatigue to pain. Then there are the emotional symptoms like depression, anxiety and stress. Any way you look at it, an illness — especially one that lasts more than a couple of weeks — is going to take a toll on you physically and mentally.
There are all kinds of ways to try to nurture yourself while you work on recovering. Many people try to distract themselves from physical and mental symptoms by reading or watching TV.
But why not try music? Music has been proven to be clinically effective. Music therapy is also a potentially cost-saving way to heal. The advantage music therapy has over other therapies is that it can be self-administered, making it accessible to everyone — though it can also be facilitated by a trained music therapist.
A therapist will use music in a holistic way to promote, maintain and restore mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. What makes music therapy so effective is that music itself is nonverbal, so it can reach parts of you that don’t normally respond/listen to words. It is creative and can stimulate your imagination and encourage you to expand your perceptions. And it is also capable of connecting with you emotionally, opening the door for some self-healing to take place.
Taken together then, these qualities of music are used during therapy to encourage contact, interaction, self-awareness, learning, self-expression, communication, and personal development. You can see how all of these benefits together could become a powerful force that you can harness to regain good health.
Current studies also suggest that when music therapy is used along with traditional therapy, it could improve success rates significantly. And now a recent study conducted in Luxembourg has found that even a serious disease like dementia could benefit from the healing powers of music. The research team that conducted the clinical trial found that music seems to stimulate emotional memory and this, in turn, can trigger the emergence of other memories and better cognitive performance. Music therapy also increased feelings of well-being in the study participants.

Six Best Natural Pain Relievers

Here’s something positive on the health news front. Researchers at the Pain Research Center at the University of Utah have discovered that music could help reduce pain symptoms. Music, it seems, really can create a distraction that diverts our mind from focusing on pain.
For their study, the U.S. researchers recruited 153 healthy, normal volunteers. These volunteers participated in a test session in which pain responses were measured while listening to music. The researchers found that music reduced pain responses in the volunteers, but with a caveat: personality factors like anxiety and the ability to become absorbed in music increased the pain-reducing effect. In other words, music listening can reduce your responses to pain, depending on your personality. The researchers have this health advice: doctors should consider patients’ personality characteristics when recommending music listening for pain relief.

The Truth is within - The privilege of fully living our authentic potential

blog_truth
Life invites us to be always on the edge of change. We cannot use past habits and programmes to activate our unique potential, our genius, into the dynamic process of creation. We want to create something new – something that has never been part of our life before!

Living the life of our dreams

Every one of us has the potential to move beyond an ordinary life towards living the life of our dreams. Our life can be a journey of adventure and discovery, whereby we start resetting our mind in such a way that it makes the impossible possible! We can be living an ordinary life, yet in a completely unusual way. We might bring the extra-ordinary into our life – perhaps even the inconceivable. It is possible to have it all, whatever that might mean for each of us. We can choose to make our journey through life a glorious adventure. To achieve this, we need to be willing to accept the extraordinary – firstly, to know that there is so much more than what we can currently even imagine or perceive and secondly, to begin to perceive the extraordinary in the apparent ordinariness of our everyday life. Accepting even the possibility of the extraordinary opens the gate that allows us to begin to experience it.

Tips for Getting Your Life Organized

Organization is an important tool to become more efficient, save time on mundane tasks, make things look tidier, and find things when they are needed. While most of us are very busy throughout the day, simple organization ideas can make life easier while taking care of things that need to be done. To get more organized, take advantage of life organization tips. Does this Spark an idea?
Tips for Getting Your Life Organized thumbnail
  1. Tools and Reminders

    • Set up an organization schedule and adhere to it so chores do not start piling up. While this sounds easy, many tasks often go forgotten. To avoid forgetting chores, make sure there are plenty of reminders set. For those who have notepads or reminder features on their cell phones, set an alarm to sound at the time a task is supposed to be accomplished. Buy a daily planner and write down the tasks that need to be done and when they must be accomplished. If you live with friends or family, set up a wall or computer calendar where everyone can see what they must organize and deadlines.

Press F1 key to start Windows

Solution

  • It may be asking you to press the "F1" key because it is having a hardware problem which should be checked, or you may need to adjust the settings in BIOS. It can also be an indication that you need to replace the CMOS battery.
  • Try this:
    • Go to your BIOS and load default settings. Also check the date and time in BIOS.
    • If you don't have a floppy drive then disable the Floppy Mode option in BIOS.
    • Look for the option "Halt On" and set it to "No Error".
    • Save the settings and exit from BIOS.
    • If the problem persists, change the CMOS battery --> Go to BIOS and load default settings --> Make sure to disable the floppy mode if you don't have a floppy drive --> Set the Primary boot device as "HDD" and save the settings and exit from BIOS.

VERY IMPORTANT JUDGEMENT

 Some years back a Com. Samal was punished by the Cuttack Administration on flimsy ground for his union activities. The Charge-sheet was challenged in the CAT. Hon'ble CAT, Odisha has now set aside the Charge-sheet. This is very important judgment, which up-held the principle that one cannot be the complainant, witness and judge in his own case. {CLICK HERE FOR THE COPY}

Cancel a Print Job Without Wasting Tons of Paper

The moment you realize you've sent a 100-page mistake to your printer--whether it's at your home or office--is not the moment to start researching how to stop it. Keep this two-option guide in mind or at hand, so when that moment arrives, you'll be ready.

Cancel From Your Printer

If you are close to the printer, walk over to it and either cancel the job or pull out the paper. Most printers have a fairly obvious Cancel or Stop button on the front controls; pressing that button will quickly halt whatever print job is in progress. Alternatively, you can turn the printer off. Or if you can get to the paper supply easily, you can try removing the stack. Removing the paper from the printer's input tray (or turning the printer off) won't cancel the print job, but it will pause the printing, giving you time to take other steps to delete the mistake.

Cancel From Your PC

If you can't make it to the printer quickly, you'll need to stop the job remotely from your PC. This procedure involves opening the print queue and canceling the job. Here's how to open the queue in Windows 7 or Vista, and how to cancel a print job within it.

In Windows 7

Cancel Stalled Print Jobs

How to cancel stalled print jobs

You know the drill: You send a document to the printer but nothing happens, so you open the Print Queue. There's the print job, all right, along with some kind of cryptic error message. So you try to cancel or delete the job--and, again, nothing happens. Even after you reboot the PC, the failed print jobs sit there in the queue, taunting you.
This head-scratcher dates back as far as I can remember, and even Windows 7 hasn't fully resolved the issue. It's usually the result of a communication problem between the computer and the printer, and the culprit could be anything from a corrupted driver to a faulty USB cable to a wonky network setting (if you're using a network-connected printer).
Fortunately, you can send stuck print jobs packing. Download and run the Stalled Printer Repair app, which serves the singular (and singularly awesome) function of purging stuck print jobs from the queue. Purging them means those documents will never reach your printer--but after you resolve the issue, you can just send them again.

Recover a Missing Recycle Bin

How to recover a missing Recycle Bin
Has your Recycle Bin disappeared?
Before I tell you how to solve the problem, you need to answer one more question: Was the Recycle Bin ever actually there? I've seen a lot of new PCs that come with the feature disabled (and most users never bother to look for it until they need to recover an accidentally deleted file).
Of course, sometimes the Bin does get deleted by accident, and sometimes a third-party program or weird Windows glitch turns the feature off. Whatever the case, it's usually easy to recover.

Step by Step

Step 1. Windows Vista and 7 users can click Start, type desktop icons, and then click Show or hide common icons on the desktop.
Step 2. Enable the checkbox next to Recycle Bin, and then click OK.
Step 3. If that doesn't do the trick (or if you're an XP user), Microsoft has posted a Fix-it--an automated troubleshooter--devoted to this problem. Head to Microsoft Support, and clickRun now when the Fix-it box appears. (If the box doesn't appear, scroll down to the Fix-it button.)

No to fat! Watch your waistline from expanding

1. Take control of what you eat. Weight watchers should have complete control over what they eat. One should never have the habit of eating everything laid in front of them. Eat as much as required. In simple, do not over-eat.
2. More of fruits, vegetables and whole grains are important for daily healthy life. Increase the intake of unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These types of foods can be consumed in plenty without gaining weight. Meat can be included in ones diet, care should be taken that its lean meat and not the deep fried ones.
3.Eat more fiber. Fiber rich diet should be made an integral part of one's meal. This not only aids in increasing the metabolism but makes us feel full sooner and stays longer in the stomach ensuring decrease in appetite. Refined grains like white rice and those used to make white bread and sugary breakfast cereals have had most of their fiber and nutrients striped away.
They turn into blood sugar (glucose) so fast that, like sugar itself, they can cause a spike in our insulin level. This tells our body that plenty of energy is readily available and that it should stop burning fat and start storing it.
4. Cutting down on sugar is essential as the insulin spike caused by eating foods like white rice is even more dramatic when eating sugar itself. One has to be cautious on sugar in coffee and soda pop. It can add up quickly, and these drinks aren't filling.

5. Too little of a good thing. Fat should not be totally eliminated from our diet for its required to maintain a healthy body. One should learn to differentiate between beneficial and hazardous saturated fats.
6. Eat frequently, but always eat slowly. Never skip a meal, and eat healthy snacks between meals. Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs, provides consistent energy, and maintains metabolism efficiency. Human bodies are designed with survival mechanism which results in slowing down the metabolic activity when one tends to go on a crash diet or skips a meal to conserve energy. Eating slowly gives our body time to tell us they are full before we eat more than we need.
7. Consume lots of warm water. Consumption of lots of warm water not only burns the calories but also increases the metabolic activity.
8. Avoid fried foods. Fried foods, especially deep-fried, although they are tasty to eat contain a great amount of fat. While chicken and fish are usually leaner than beef, they can contain more fat than beef when they are fried.
9. Cut down on fat when you treat yourself to a Pizza avoid the luxury of the extra layer of cheese or mayonnaise. Eliminate the cream from your salads.
10. Exercise regularly. Exercise not only helps to burn calories, but your body will continue to burn calories at a higher rate even after you stop exercising. If walking is all you can do, then walk because it's been proven to be great for you. But don't sit too long. The human body is good at adapting. If you dig ditches without gloves, you will develop calluses to protect your hands. If you sit too long, you will develop extra padding to keep you comfortable!
11. Increase your protein intake. Without protein your body cannot build new muscle. Protein also helps to increase your metabolism - which burns calories.

How to Create a Drop Down Menu in Excel 2007

When multiple people are allowed to enter data in the same Excel spreadsheet, it is important to ensure that the data is entered correctly. The most effective way to do this is with a drop-down menu, which ensures that the possible entries for a cell are limited to those that you define. This article explains the procedure necessary to create a drop-down menu in an Excel 2007 spreadsheet.

Instructions

    • 1
Switch to a different sheet in the workbook that is being used by clicking a tab on the bottom of the window. This helps prevent the list from being confused with a data-entry area.
    • 2
Type a list of items on the sheet using cells that are on top of one another (e.g., A1, A2, A3 and A4). Leave no spaces between the items and type them in the order that they should appear on the drop-down menu.
    • 3
Use the mouse to draw a box around the cells you used for the list.

Make Internet Explorer run faster

The Internet is everywhere—from the home to office to the classroom. We use it to communicate, to work, to play—and even occasionally to waste time.
Yet there's nothing more frustrating than having this technical marvel at our fingertips 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, only to wait while our computers access it at a crawling pace. Thankfully, Windows Internet Explorer provides some useful options for quicker web surfing.

Reduce the size of your webpage history

Internet Explorer stores visited webpages to your computer, organizing them within a page history by day. Although it's useful to keep a couple days of web history within your computer, there's no need to store more than a week's worth. Any more than that and the collected webpages can slow down your computer's performance.
Note: Depending on which version of Internet Explorer you're using, the steps outlined and images shown may vary slightly.

Report: IE10 for Windows 7 nears final release

Microsoft is close to wrapping up work on Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) on Windows 7, according to a report published Friday.
Citing sources enrolled in an invitation-only IE10 test group, Microsoft-watcher and ZDNet blogger Mary Jo Foley said that the Redmond, Wash.-based developer has told those testers that the more recent build will be the last before the browser is released to the public.
Officially, IE10 on Windows 7 remains in “Release Preview,” a build that debuted Nov. 13, 2012. At the time, Computerworld speculated that a final release would occur before the end of 2012, basing its estimate on the development timetable for IE9. Instead, the browser will apparently launch in 2013.

Why, how and where to update your Windows 8 drivers

Has your computer's hardware started freaking out, freezing up or behaving in weird ways since you've made the jump to Windows 8? Don't lay blame at the feet of a mischievous gremlin. Instead, it’s much more likely that your devices simply aren't rocking the most up-to-date Windows 8-compatible drivers.
Yes, a simple driver update might just fix your Windows 8 hardware woes.
The Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant does a decent job of identifying which parts and software in your rig need an update prior to installing Windows 8—and Microsoft'sWindows Compatibility Center website offers the same feature for DIY types who prefer to search for specific programs and hardware—but many devices still fall through the cracks, and you'll need to manually update any drivers Microsoft can't snag itself. (Note that the process outlined below works for Windows 7, as well.)

How to Read Online for Kids

Reading at a young age jump starts lifelong learning. By encouraging your child to read, you build a solid foundation for school success and inspire the self-confidence that will help your child thrive throughout the rest of his or her life. Providing your child with a wide range of options keeps reading fun and interesting. Reading online is cheaper than going to a bookstore and faster than going to the library. Best of all, you never have to remember to return the books.

Away From Home: Control Your Computer Anywhere

In 1940, Bell Telephone Laboratories researcher George Stibitz demonstrated the Complex Number Calculator at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. The calculator, however, was in New York City. According to the Computer History Museum website, “Stibitz stunned the group” by remotely operating the calculator via telephone lines. Today, remotely accessing your devices isn’t nearly so novel. With the built-in Remote Assistance application on your Windows machine, you can control who can access your computer and for how long.

Install and Uninstall Programs on a PC

Installing and uninstalling programs from a PC is generally an easy process using Microsoft Windows 7. However, there are enough exceptions to this rule that you should never take it for granted that a program will be installed or uninstalled without problems. This can be the case for software that was designed before Windows 7 was released or for programs that use their own uninstall applications. Read the instructions carefully when installing any program and watch what is happening on the screen while it is being installed. Before uninstalling a program, take a look at the application folder and read any documentation that came with the software to look for special requirements.

Troubleshooting a Computer Mouse

Troubleshooting PC Mouse Problems thumbnail

Check that the Mouse is Plugged In

  • If your mouse has stopped responding, the most likely reason is that it has become unplugged from the computer unit. Whether you have a wireless or a wired mouse, it likely connects to the side or rear of your computer using a PS2 connector (common on older machines) or a Universal Serial Bus (USB, common on most modern machines) connector. Follow the cord from the mouse or the wireless mouse base station to your computer and verify that the connection is secure. If necessary, unplug the mouse and plug it back in, or move it to another available port.
Please note that some Bluetooth devices may not have a physical connection to the computer; if you are using a Bluetooth mouse that connects to your computer's built-in Bluetooth function, you can safely skip this step.
